Eligibility and Restrictions

The Foundation will award grants or interest free loans to eligible faculty or administrative staff of the Harrisburg School District.  Applicants must demonstrate initiative, a desire to improve themselves, a need for financial assistance and that the course of study to be pursued will improve their professional skill, ability and understanding.

A comprehensive statement of intent must be submitted with each application, as well as a letter of recommendation from the Superintendent of Schools if the course of study is to be directed by the school district.

Use of the Foundation assistance is restricted to those purposes outlined in the application and statement of intent and may be changed only with the permission of the Foundation.

Each applicant must sign a statement agreeing to continue on the faculty or staff of the Harrisburg School District for a minimum of two years after completion of the course of study for which the assistance is granted.

Applications

Completed applications must be submitted no later than May 30th of the year for which the assistance is requested.  The foundation may conduct a retail check of the applicant.  The applicant must submit a copy of his or her federal income tax return with the application.

Selection

Recipients will be chosen by a committee appointed by the President of the Foundation.  Selection will be based on personal interviews conducted during July.  Applicants must be present for the interviews.

Repayment

While the Foundation has the ability to make outright grants, or to charge low rates of interest on its educational loans, most assistance will be in the form of interest free loans.  Repayment  is to be made in equal installments within a period not to exceed five years after completion or termination of the course of study for which the assistance is given.

Exceptions

Requests for exceptions to any of the required procedures must be made  in writing and will be granted only under unusual circumstances.
